My Lip Piercing
Ever since I was beginning to think outside the box (around 4th or 5th grade), I’ve wanted my lip pierced. Before all the emo and scene kids started getting snake bites, before it was cool. I wanted people to see me and say “damn, that kid’s unique” or simply a “wow”. Back then it was all I could ever ask for.
It pretty much started when Avril Lavigne’s music video for “Sk8er Boi” was a huge hit. (Hey, I was like 10. It was hardcore to me.) If I remember right, theres a scene in which she is singing on top of a car and some guy is filming her and her band. You see the guy smile while he’s filming, revealing a silver hoop in the middle of his lip. IT WAS SO FUCKING COOL! I remember the exact moment from when I saw it. I wanted it more than anything.
There was also a time in which Chester Bennington (lead singer of Linkin Park) had his lip pierced. He was my idol back then, so that probably played a role in it too.
Anyways, in the summer of 8th grade I finally took a saftey pin to my lip. It went in easy, and I got it mighty straight for a DIY piercing. The hardest part was getting the stud in, which was a 14 gauge. Pretty big compared to the needle, lol.
It’s been almost a year since I’ve had it done, and I still love it. I have a black hoop for it, a silver hoop, and a silver spike. Pretty soon I’m going to get a plain silver stud, though.

awesome story dude. it’s really inspirational. im the same age as you were then and i want to do it. but i really need a way to do it. you said a safety pin but my ring is seven times bigger than that. idk what to do, maybe you have an idea?

Get a size 16 gauge, then mark where your going to pierce with a sharpie and go for it! Use rubbing alcohol to clean a large safety pin and the area your piercing. Then put it through (you can numb it with ice if you have a low pain tolerance), and get the gauge through. Thats the hardest part, but if its just a stud (and not a hoop) then it will make it a lot easier. Clean it every day with dial soap on the outside and 1 tsp salt mixed with 1 cup of hot water for the inside (swish it around after you eat and before bed and in the morning). Be safe and have fun!

i gt a question.. peep on wiki etc say u gta b careful nt to hit a vein, how the fudge do i know were the veins are and ws tht a problem wid u or did u just slam it in? ;]

Dude, lip piercings were around and popular way before avril lavigne came onto the seen. You weren’t the first to want one and try listening to some pantera or white zombie when you were growing up. You think avril is hardcore. pantera at 10 changed my life forever.

I have peirced my lip three times, of course I had to take them all out :/ (BUT NOT due to infection) and I’ll be doing it again as soon as I get my damned braces off (six weeks) it doesn’t really hurt and doesn’t get infected easily. I agree they look really cool.
